USASA Region 1 Finals

Finals to be played at the Ukrainian Club

USASA Region 1 Finals

The Region I cup finals were held 18-19 June at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham. Six titles were up for grabs after a culmination of State and Region qualifiers that started last September. The winners will go on to represent the Region in their respective National finals.

The first championship match was on Saturday evening as the Renegades (MDCVA) lost 0:1 against Safira FC (MA) for the Over-40 Cup.

Following the Over-40 match was the Amateur Cup for the Fritz Marth Trophy. 2019 champion Newtown Pride FC (CT) battled against NOVA FC (MDCVA). This is the first cup run for NOVA who defeated West Chester United (EPA) in the southern bracket semi-final.  NOVA FC came out the winner, after extra time (2:2) and PKs (5:4)

Sunday morning we kicked off the Gerhard Mengel Cup for the Over-30 Championship. This was a replay of last season's title match between cup holders Christos FC (MD) and NY Pancyprian Freedom (ENY), but this year Pancyprian won the title 3:2.

For the second year in a row, we played the Women's Championship. Defending champion Sidekicks FC (MA) defeated Hoboken FC 1912 (NJ) 2:1 in a well fought match.

The finals wrapped up with the Werner Fricker Cup for the Open Championship with West Chester United (EPA) defeating a strong opponent Jackson Lions FC (NJ), after extra time (1:1) and PKs (5:4).

In addition, the Under-23 Championship tournament for the Gus Xikis Trophy took place on Sunday. Twelve teams participated in a round-robin format, with the final between our own Vereinigung Erzgebirge and West Chester United White.
Again – after another tight match  –  VE was victorious after extra time (1:1) and PKs (4:3).
